The Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center welcomes David E. Hale, Esq. as its new Executive Director, effective January 2, 2024. Mr. Hale succeeds Janet Hooper who retires from the role after 15 years of dedicated service. Janet believes, “The Center will be in great hands moving forward. David has all the tools necessary to grow the Center’s impact in our community.”

Mr. Hale brings more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, legal advocacy, philanthropy and community organizing to his passion for social justice and dedication to creating a more equitable world.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of MWNFC, we are excited to welcome David to this leadership role at such a critical time in service to our local communities,” said William “Chip” Tieder, Esq., Chair of the Board. “David’s experience fostering sustainable growth over the long-term will ensure the Center is here to meet the mounting needs of the families and children we serve.”

Upon accepting the position, Mr. Hale noted, “I am honored and humbled to lead the Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center, building on the legacy of Janet Hooper, the Board of Directors, and the incredibly dedicated staff to ensure our support continues for years to come. The generosity of this team and our community inspires me to help us grow and lead on behalf of all those in need.”

Mr. Hale most recently served as the Chief Advancement Officer for the Code of Support Foundation, dedicated to our nation’s veterans, caregivers, and military families. Prior, David led external affairs and fundraising on behalf of the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty and the American Association of People with Disabilities, and before that was a practicing disability rights attorney on behalf of Protection and Advocacy. David has served on the Boards of Directors for Seattle Pride, Baltimore Pride, and Capital Pride in Washington, DC. David continues to teach as an Associate Professor for the University of Maryland Global Campus in courses on Disability Rights, Culture of Technology, and pre-law.

David received his JD from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri, and his BA with Honors in Psychology, Philosophy and Religion from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. David and his partner raise their two boys in Dunedin, Florida, where they love to cheer for local sports, bike to the beach, camp, and cook out.
